leave before you are left.

It's incredible to me how often i've applied these five words to many of life's challenges. i once ended things with a boy because i felt he might end it sooner, and how could i possibly EVER recover knowing that HE did the heart breaking? i would much rather be in the upper hand in this scenario. who wouldn't? Stepping back in time for a hot minute, who has ever rounded up the gang while everyone is crowded around a keg of Natty Light because you were in fear that if the Cops decided to make a drive-by, you would be left alone to fend for yourself. Your safest bet was to go ahead and make like a tree and leave, because sometimes getting caught alone with a red solo cup is much more painful than being the scaredy cat who has to "make it home by curfew" knowing good and well you have another 2 hours before the clock strikes 1:00am.

So, here I am...25 years old and I'm on the verge of leaving before I'm left, but this time there are no cups of warmed-over, flat, cheap beer or teenage boys who think they know what love is...this is my career at hand. The same career that I thought was THE ONE, the same career that I couldn't fathom giving up on because it was MY DREAM. The same career that has taken me to many new cities, introduced me to a multitude of new people, opened my eyes to the finer things in life, and the same career that has helped me discover the reality of it all. Anybody can work any job, but if it's not bringing a smile to your face everyday, an extra skip in your step or makes your heart want to burst with joy then why the hell are you doing it? Move on, let the tides roll in and find what it is you're truly passionate about.

Just like all the other times when you leave while the gettin' is good, you don't know what you're gettin' yourself into but you know it's bound to be better than what you just had. We've all heard this from everyone, but when one door closes another one opens..it always does. And the door that opens will more than likely slap you in the face and it may knock you down, but there's a world full of surprises, new experiences and new discoveries staring you in the eye and taunting you with "come on and find me, you know you want to." You'll get back on your feet, stand tall and proud, and look back on that time you left and pat yourself on the back.
